Kenneth's Birthday

We had Kenneth and Graham over last night, July 25, to celebrate Kenneth's **th birthday. David cooked a memorable meal of white bait, Chinese spiced duck marylands on bok choy and home-made vanilla icecream with home-made chocolate sauce and toffee shards. I also tried to set Kenneth up with a Flickr account so he can post the fabulous photos he will no doubt take with his new Digital SLR onto the net, and David gave him a Number One buzz cut. So, Kenneth now also has a brand new look. The photo below shows the before haircut.

Close Encounters of the Koala Kind

I've walked the trail between Crafers and Stirling at lunchtime many, many times over the years. I'm usually reading a book as I walk so when I happen upon something along the trail I usually get a bit of a fright. Today as I was coming back from Stirling (a lovely espresso flat white and a home-made style peppermint slice) I was nearly run over by a fast moving koala. However, unlike past times, I had a camera and was able to record the encounter. He got a surprise when he came across me and then headed for the nearest tree. He climbed about 30cm up the tree and had a look at me and as I didn't move he climbed down from the tree, sat for a moment and then headed off, took one last look back and then rollicked off at koala sprint-pace.

SA Central Flickr Group at Warrawong

This morning (Saturday) the SA Central group of Flickr users met at Warrawong to meet and take photos. Sunny and not too cold, it was a nice couple of hours together. It was interesting and fun to meet people you've only interacted with via a website. Names, however, are a difficulty.

If you click on the pictures you will go to my Flickr website, where you can see the pictures larger and see comments people may (or may not have) made about the photo. From there you can also see more of my photography. Just use your back button to return to Chateau Glenunga and normal programming.

Hahndorf & beyond

On Saturday (July 14) we took my Mum out for a day out. We went for lunch at the Hahndorf Hill Winery which has just recently begun to serve food on the weekends. It's in a beautiful location over looking farming land - contented cows in stunningly green pastures. Mum and I had the lamb shanks (great winter dish), David had the venison (think slaughtered Bambi) and I had dessert of warmed prunes and ice-cream with chocolate sauce. We had a bottle of the shiraz, stunning, to go with the mains.

After lunch we went to a new cellar door at Balhannah, Abbey Rock. Nice venue. Instead of a bar you're seated at Chesterfields and leather tub chairs and served the wine. Very salubrious.

After that we went to Mount Barker and had a look at my brother Ken's new place of work - Radio Rentals Mount Barker in the new homemaker complex. I went a bit mad taking photos of the complex as it's mostly empty and you could get these neat, surreal shots of it. Ken was at work so we had a chat to him went for coffee and then dropped Mum off with Ken so she could go home with him back to Murray Bridge.

The pictures below can be enlargified by the clicking of them thereupon. Once you have gazed click-upon the back button to return to normal viewing.

Me reflected in the log fire at Hahndorf Hill Winery. Burn, Baby Burn, Disco Inferno . . .

The lamb shanks were very fine indeed.

My dessert. Most food groups covered - the chocolate group, the ice cream group and the . . . um . . . prune group.

Gladiolus

We saw 'Barry Humphries Back With A Vengeance" at Her Majesty's Theatre on Friday night. The show was fantastic - just hilarious. It ended in the traditional way with Dame Edna thowing Gladiolus flowers into the audience. One she threw, intended for the balcony, didn't quite make it and it landed on David. So we brought home a real Dame Edna Gladdy. & here it is.
